Be Here Now

Early in the journey you wonder how long the journey will take and whether you will make it in this lifetime. Later you will see that where you are going is HERE and you will arrive NOW...so you stop asking. ~ Ram Dass

Its been awhile. Time for some rambling thoughts from a Black Hills artist! Been thinking a lot about time. Specifically the passing of time. I guess that's the way it is as you get older. A couple weeks ago Jeff Beck passed. That's what started this recent train of thought for me.

Music is such a huge part of my creative process. It always has been. I know this will sound weird to some but after so many years of enjoying peoples music its almost like I know them. Its a relationship of sorts, even though in most cases I never meet these artists. It doesn't matter because the impact they have on my life is huge. So when Jeff passed and then right after David Crosby it was a huge sense of loss. It also made me think about different life events that included their music. I'm sure you can relate.

Music has always been a matter of Energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed Fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. ~ Hunter S. Thompson

Before I go on with my ramblings I would like to introduce Jodie Lemke to the gallery. Jodie is a South Dakota native living in Rapid City. She is a wonderful photographer and I am so very proud to have her in my gallery. If you would like more information about Jodie's work you can contact me or come by the gallery.

So I guess my take away on the passing of time is to truly be here now. Its easy to get caught up with the daily workings of life. Always busy, like a hamster on a wheel. It is important to live life completely without regret. That's my goal. To somehow balance everything and more importantly to appreciate and enjoy the time I have left on this beautiful planet we call home.

I would like to share these musing from someone I follow on Youtube. She is a very wise and talented woman.

OK, on to other things. This time of year I try to get a jump on inventory for summer. The new space is busier than it was at Cheyenne Crossing so I am learning to manage my time a bit better. Figuring out what I can do without burning myself out creatively. I have been bringing on other peoples work to help with that. I love helping other artists get their work out there.

At some point I will do a post of all the artists I represent in the gallery. So many talented people.

In the mean time here are some of the pieces I recently listed on the website shop. If your interested in any of these pieces just go to the website then click on the shop page. Also if you haven't already please subscribe! That way you don't miss out on anything!

There will be lots of fun exciting events coming up in the new year. This month we have snow cross happening in Deadwood. On February 18 Deadwood will host a Wine and Chocolate stroll. I will be making homemade chocolates and the Bullock has ordered some fabulous wines for the event. March I will be hosting an art opening for Tim Peterson and Jodie Lemke. More on that soon. Also coming up The Historic Bullock Hotel will be reopening Seth's Cellar. It will be a Speakeasy located in the basement of the Bullock.

So as you can tell I enjoy Youtube. I love to go thru all the videos looking for the little gems. I'm not usually a Miley Cyrus fan but I came across this one and absolutely love it! I am a big Lou Reed fan and have always loved this song. She did a great job covering it.

That's it for now. I hope all of you out there are doing well. Until next time. OXO
